Stephen's keen understanding of the homeowner has moved him into the spotlight in recent years through his work on television and in magazines. This understanding, accompanied by his friendly, approachable, and creative style is making design accessible to everyone - no matter who they are, where they are or what their budget may be.
As a husband, father and homeowner - he understands the needs of the family-focused lifestyle. "I have the same 'To-Do' list on my refrigerator that everyone has. There is always something to be to done with our homes and hopefully what I bring to the table will help everyone see the best in their homes," says the designer. Hence, why Saint-Onge has been heralded as "The Home and Style Designer for the Everyday Family." He draws upon his background in film and design to help the homeowner create a home that truly captures who they are, but at the same time captures a mood they are looking to bring to life that represents their home in the right light.
Along with his numerous television appearances on programs and networks such as Oprah, The View, CNN, CBS's The Early Show, Fox News, ESPN and TLC. His work has also been featured in publications such as House Beautiful, In Style, Child, Renovation Style, Real Simple, Elle Decor, Cottage Living, Metropolitan Home, Home, Shape, Chicago Tribune, Los Angeles Times, USA Today, and the Wall Street Journal. House Beautiful magazine named him "one of the top fifteen designers in America."
Stephen does private client design work, as well as media events, appearances and design seminars about home design and style around the country. He also lends his time and name to worthy causes and events. One focus he is passionate about is creative arts programs that are being eliminated from many school curriculums around the country. Stephen feels that these programs and their teachers are a very important part of the full development and well-rounded education of our young people.
Aside from design, Stephen is an avid painter, illustrator and has a strong passion for film. In fact, film becomes the inspiration for many of his creative works and that is where his love of design began early on in his career. He suggests to homeowners who are trying to determine what their own personal home style is - "What is your favorite movie? Is there a house in there that you respond to? That is where your inspiration can begin."
As film is art imitating life, it is no surprise that Stephen surrounds himself with music when he is designing or doing creative work in his own studio. One his favorite creative music must-haves is anything by the talented team of Secret Garden www.secretgarden.no.
Finally, you might ask: What is Stephen's personal favorite film? "Out of Africa. That film is such a artist's dream. The use of color, light and detail is so powerful. The music, the performances, the whole thing is an amazing example of art creating an energy that immerses you into another world and in that world, you find things that you connect to or elements that you can bring into your own life. Another favorite film would be Somethings Gotta Give. The house set in that film is amazing and very close to my own personal style." |
